Wallet, Land and Market Terms
Last updated 3 November 2026
The short version. You must be 18 or over. Land, coins and items are things inside the game. They are not tokens, not real property and not investments, and we do not buy them back. Market stalls are deals between players, and we are not part of them. The wallet runs on your own computer, so if you lose your recovery phrase nobody, including us, can get your HTN back. Crypto payments cannot be reversed, and the price of HTN can move sharply. Only spend what you can afford to lose.
1. Who can use these features
These terms add to the Terms of Service. The wallet and land are only for people aged 18 or over, and the server refuses them to accounts whose date of birth says otherwise. That includes buying coins and buying or selling at market stalls.
You may not use them where it is against the law where you live, or where crypto-asset payments for goods or the cash value of game items are prohibited. We do not offer them in mainland China or South Korea, or to anyone in a place under comprehensive EU, UK, UN or US sanctions or named on those sanctions lists. It is your responsibility to check what applies to you.
2. The wallet
- It is self-custody software. The wallet is part of the game client. Your keys and recovery phrase are made and kept on your
own computer, in
hiili-wallet.json, encrypted with your wallet password. We never receive them and never hold your HTN. - We cannot rescue you. If you lose your recovery phrase and password, or someone else gets them, your funds can be lost for good. We cannot recover, freeze or reverse anything. Write the phrase down and keep it safe. Deleting or moving the game folder can also delete the wallet file.
- We are not a financial service. We do not exchange crypto-assets, hold them for you or give financial, tax or investment advice. We are not authorised as a crypto-asset service provider, and no deposit guarantee or investor compensation scheme covers anything here.
- Third parties. The wallet uses the public Hoosat network and a public service,
proxy.hoosat.net, that we do not guarantee. They can be slow or unavailable, or can change. - You choose what to link. The wallet links to the server only when you open land, coins or a stall.
- Our link to Hoosat. Toni Lukkaroinen, who runs Hiili, is the founder of the Hoosat network and allows the game to use HTN as its currency. This website also runs on a hoosat.fi address. Because land and coins are paid for in HTN, to an address we control, and because demand for HTN can affect its price, we have an interest in its use, so please weigh what we say about HTN with that in mind. Nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy HTN.
3. What a parcel is
When you buy a parcel you get the right to use a circular area of the shared world in the game, with the protection the game gives it: inside an active parcel only you can dig, build, remove objects or open chests, and nobody is hurt. Others can still walk through it.
A parcel is not:
- real property, or ownership of anything outside the game. When the game says your land is "owned" or "yours", it means this in-game right;
- a token or NFT. The payment is on the blockchain, but the parcel is a record on our server;
- a financial instrument or an investment. Do not buy one expecting a profit or a resale. Its value does not depend on any promise from us of a return.
Your parcel is part of your licence to play. Selling it outside the game for money is not allowed.
4. Buying a parcel
- The game shows the size, the price in HTN (often with an approximate US dollar value) and the address before you pay. The dollar value is only a guide. The HTN price is what you pay, plus any network fee.
- A quoted price holds for a limited time. The contract is made when your payment has been confirmed on the chain and the wallet page says the parcel is bought.
- Your wallet signs a message that links your addresses to your account, and part of the payment (0.1 HTN) comes back to your own address. This proves the payment is yours.
- Activation is final. A parcel stays unused until you press ACTIVATE HERE. Once active, it cannot be moved.
5. Buying coins
Coins are the game's money. Monsters drop them, and you can also buy packs of them with HTN from us. Buying is optional, and you get exactly the number shown: there is no chance involved. Coins arrive in your purse once the payment is confirmed on the chain. We do not buy coins back, and they earn no interest. We can change how coins work in the game, and what they buy, as part of developing it.
6. Market stalls
Players can sell in-game items to each other for HTN on market stalls. The game lets you do this as a convenience, but:
- The deal is between you and the other player. We are not the seller or the buyer, we take no cut and we never hold the HTN: it goes straight from the buyer's wallet to the seller's. Our server only holds the goods and hands them over when the chain shows the payment.
- We do not set prices or promise any value. Players set their own prices. A game update can change what an item does or what it is worth. We do not compensate for that, and there is no promise that you can earn anything.
- A payment that has gone through cannot be undone, by us or anyone else. Check what the screen shows before you confirm. We can look into a fault in the game that lost you goods, but we cannot get HTN back from another player.
- Selling shows your address. Buyers see your player name and the wallet address they pay. See the Privacy Policy.
- Sellers are responsible for their own obligations, including tax on what they earn. If you sell regularly to make money, you may count as a business, and consumer law and business rules then apply to you. You must tell buyers if so.
- Stalls are for items in the game only. Do not use them to launder money, trade with yourself to fake a price, sell anything outside the game or evade sanctions. We may remove lots, close stalls or ban accounts for that, and report it where the law requires.
7. Risks you accept
- Irreversible. Blockchain transactions cannot be undone. A payment to a wrong address, or the wrong amount, may be lost.
- Volatile. The price of HTN can rise or fall sharply, or go to zero, and it may be hard to sell.
- Technical. The network can stall, fork or be attacked, software can have bugs, and your computer can be compromised.
- Public. Payments are visible to everyone and cannot be deleted. See the Privacy Policy.
- Legal. Laws on crypto-assets change and may limit these features where you live. You are responsible for any tax on your transactions, including on spending HTN.
8. How long a parcel lasts
An active parcel lasts as long as the game world it is in, subject to these terms. We do not promise that Hiili will run forever. If we close the game or have to reset the world, we will give the notice set out in the Terms of Service and try to carry parcels over to any new world. This does not affect your legal rights, including your right to a remedy under consumer law if digital content you paid for is not supplied as agreed.
If you seriously or repeatedly break the Community Rules, we may ban your account, and you will lose access to your parcels. If a parcel itself breaks the rules, we may remove the content in it. If you ask us to delete your account, your parcels are released and we cannot refund them.
9. Your right to cancel
If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK, or anywhere else the law gives you a similar right, you can cancel a purchase from us within 14 days without giving a reason, with these limits:
- Land. You can cancel as long as you have not activated the parcel. Activating it means you ask us to supply it straight away, and you lose your right to cancel from that moment, as the game tells you. Do not press ACTIVATE HERE if you might change your mind.
- Coins. Coins are delivered as soon as the payment is confirmed. By pressing PAY NOW you ask for that and accept, as the game tells you, that you lose your right to cancel once they are delivered.
- Market stalls. A sale at a stall is with another player, not us. Your right to cancel does not apply against us, and generally does not apply against a private seller.
To cancel, tell us clearly before the 14 days run out by writing to toni.lukkaroinen@gmail.com. You can use this wording, but you do not have to:
To Toni Lukkaroinen, Finland: I hereby cancel my contract for the purchase of the following: (player name, parcel size or coin pack, transaction ID). Ordered on (date). Name. Date.
We will refund the HTN you paid, to the address that paid it, within 14 days of receiving your request. The amount is the same number of HTN, whatever has happened to its price. The network fee you paid for your own transaction is not refunded. Outside this right and any other rights you have by law, purchases are final.
10. Contact
Questions about a payment: toni.lukkaroinen@gmail.com. Include your player name and the transaction ID. Never send your password or recovery phrase. No admin will ever ask for them.
